Wednesday 7th September

What a great day, shared with friends on a brief trip to Mull from and some very sharp wildlife spotters. It was a boot and bus tour today and our walk through a volcano for a while was in the drizzle.(not active) It was still very beautiful. A robin singing his winter song. No eagles as the cloud was very low. Stopping on the edge of the loch for a cuppa and white tailed eagles on the opposite shore. one came down for a fish thrown from a boat while we watched. It changed its mind but we did have a lovely view. Red breasted merganser, greylag geese, eider ducks, red shank. Lots of our birds returning now. One wheatear, sad to see them leave but they will be back next spring. A scan for an otter and one spotted. we had a brief look as it took a fish onto the islands so we decided to move a bit closer. We had a lovely view of a snoozing otter well fed. Our day continued to be very good, Red throated diver in full summer colours. Female hen harrier flying, Golden eagles in the mountains and white tailed eagle in a tree. Heading back and a rare sight of a brent goose amongst greylags. p1090967
