Cluaran cottage Short term let licence Reference AR00980F Our cottage is open all year and ready to welcome you
When to come
As we are now moving through into Autumn . This is my favorite time of year and often dryer. The trees are starting to turn and the stars are fantastic on a clear night. Also a chance of the aurora.
Our wintering birds are starting to return, Great Northern Divers, Widgeon, Teal and a few Kingfisher flitting with a flash of blue.
Cold temperatures mean clear skies, gorgeous light and winter walks.
Lots of fungus about and still a few wild flowers with Autumn gentian, Scabious, thistle and lots of fruit on the rowan trees.
Our garden is still full of colour and we have a change of birds starting to come in for food. We have a young sparrowhawk sitting around looking very naive.
The wildlife is starting to get hungry as the cold nights are coming in, Otters are about and good views of Eagles with numbers higher as the young are out of nests.
Highlight is the roaring stags, they are often in the field behind the cottage. Very loud some nights but brilliant to hear them.
The weather can be interesting at any time of year If wildlife isn't your thing then May, June is the time to see the wildflowers, and of course the gorgeous scenary is here all year round in many moods.
We are often asked when is the best time to come. Anytime of year as the changing seasons bring their own special moments. The winter months can be great for Wildlife as less visitors around. As we are quieter we can be flexible for a short or longer break. Please contact us for information.
This can be a showery time of year which is great for seeing the larger birds such as eagles and hen Harrier as the shower passes they fly to dry off their wings.
There are lots of lovely walks and dark skies with the possibility of an aurora on a clear night. We have the milky way right over the cottage stunning to see.
There are less places open to eat and the boat trips are finished but the Salen hotel is open for food and there are places in Tobermory and Craignure.
