Thursday 8th June
Threatened with rain we skipped a stop to look for the white tailed eagles on the nest. One adult on the nest fussing the chick. Ringed plover and common terns close by. Common gulls and red breasted merganser. Common seals and geology at this busy stop. Short eared owl on a post and flying at our cuppa stop. then right over our head a white tailed eagle (juvenile) what a sight. must have fancied a biscuit. It was being chased by a buzzard giving a great comparison. shell duck, mute swan and curlew also at this great spot. Into the hills and it did look like the weather was closing in. Female hen harrier playing hide and seek. Lunch stop and an otter distant so we headed off nearer when we had finished and saw it again closer. We looked down and another very close otter. brilliant. Heading back, as always our day goes far too quickly. White tailed eagle over the hills, a brief view of a high male hen harrier. Our last stop was to see another white tailed eagle quite close again, great view of its white tail. Well not quite our last stop as we decided to re check the white tailed eagle nest as we passed it. There was the adult in the tree, a good end to a great day.
