Sunday 27th May
Mike and I both took the tour today.
very hot with a welcome breeze. First stop as we looked at the plan of the day, red breasted merganser, common seals, great northern diver gave us a good start to the day.
Red deer, distant eagle, buzzard and warblers singing in the woodland at our next stop then off for a cuppa and biscuit.
This stop was quite quiet although we did see a wren on top of the gorse singing its little heart out. beautiful.
Lots of swallows around enjoying the insects. hope they eat midges.
Into the hills and a distant golden eagle over the hill. quite windy so we carried on to the golden eagle eerie. mike spotted one of the adults on a rock above the nest. fabulous with the telescope. The sun on its feathers. it flew briefly. A young stonechat was calling close by.
A white tailed sea eagle across the glen being harassed by a male hen harrier. can it get better than this?
Abrief pause to check a pool and there was a snipe ,redshank and ringed plover busy feeding.
Lunch and an otter running over the rocky headland then it swam a little closer and finally went to sleep in the seaweed. if we hadn`t seen it lie down we would never have found it.
Our afternoon included a stop at the white tailed eagle nest. we couldnt see anything in the nest today but one of the adults flew in and landed on a branch next to the nest.
A slow drive back with wonderful scenery, tales of Mull and more wildlife.
Another good day out. Jacqui and Mike.
