Goodby 2016, hello 2017

2016 went very quickly for us, It was a very good year with some special wildlife moments. Great sightings of  the `big 5` golden and white tailed eagles, otters, red deer and hen harrier. Not forgetting the dolphins, seals and the huge variety of small birds such as the stone chat, meadow and rock pipit, robins, whinchat and siskins to name a few. The stunningly moody skies and the wealth of wildflowers in the spring and summer. Thank you to all of you for sharing Mull with us by joining a tour,  reading the tour tales or staying in the cottage. We hope to see you this year. Although the weather is interesting in the winter it is still very beautiful. The storms have passed at the moment and there is a chill in the air. clear dark skies bring the glorious milkyway and possible northern lights. The red deer are around a lot as they seek the sweeter grass on the lower slopes. Otters are happily feeding close to shore, even in the wildest weather. Hen harriers busy hunting, they are closer to the coast especially in the wild weather. The hazel bushes are starting to form catkins, waiting for the spring. yellow gorse flowers are still covering the bushes and the eagles are showing signs of nest making. The days are very slowly gaining light. spring is just round the corner. Our winter visitors are around, teal, goldeneye, lots of great northern divers, slavonian grebe and little grebe. flocks of small birds pass through and there are still some of the thrushes around. Our feeders are full of chaffinch, blue tits, long tailed tits, goldfinch and greenfinch. collared doves, black birds, coal tits and next doors chicken. We are enjoying wandering the hills and exploring new areas. We are still taking tours when requested and have seen some great wildlife. We look forward to the new season and lots more great days out.
