Tuesday 23rd May

A great start to our day, warm and sunny. with two white tailed eagles over the nest. One flew so we got to see the full size of this huge bird. Common seals and a brief otter spotted by one of my guests. We knew the rain was due to come in so we headed off. Short eared owl hunting across the fields. red deer on the hill and a grey heron coming across the front of us and back again. Willow warbler calling behind. The flowers are coming out all over the place, mixing spring and summer blooms. Cuppa stop with loads of swallows, buzzards and a lovely whitethroat sang for us. Into the hills and a distant white tailed eagle flying high then another and another in all we had 5 of them. two came right over the top of us and a golden eagle came out of the clouds to see them off. all juvenile. Our other treat of the day has to be the bundle of otters. mum and two cubs. A big thank you to our self caterers Steve Ange and Liz who spotted them first. a snipe flew up near us and skylarks were displaying. The rain was with us and the lovely views of the mountains disappeared. We drove through the ancient woodland to have our cuppa and cake. very wet now. Last stop of the day and two close red deer looking a bit scruffy shedding winter coats. Treat of the day my first sight of a ladybird on Mull. Jacqui
