Thursday 28th September
Well what a great day today, We got away early giving us a good long day. First stop goosander, ringed plover and common gull. Next stop two white tailed eagles on the shore, one in the tree and an otter in front of us. A second otter in the next bay a very good start. One of our guests had seen golden eagle down the glen near us so we decided to take a short walk to take a look.we were rewarded with a juvenile golden eagle over the hill. Cuppa stop and as soon as we got out an otter was on top of a rock ,we watched for some time as it went fishing and came on shore to eat a fish, lovely. Ravens and buzzards, common seals and white tailed eagles across the bay (probably the ones we saw earlier) Slow drive on,a stop to check the bay and a distant eagle spotted. Our day continued with a charm of goldfinch, red deer and red breasted merganser. Common guillemots and slavonian grebe added to our enjoyment. Lunch stop and lapwing in the fields, buzzards overhead. Steady drive along looking for hen harrier,a special request for one of the guests. Golden eagles in the hills, first one flying along the hill having a good look at the red deer! it landed on a rock and a great spot by one of my guests to see where it was. it was very difficult to see and then the second was seen next to it. Everyone managed to see them. They then obliged us with a fly past.wow. Finally our luck was in for the hen harrier . A male flew a cross the hillside allowing all of us to get a great view.Common seals on the island. Almost back and a quick stop on route to look at the red deer in the field. Last stop and another otter, common seals, common gulls, dunlin, ringed plover, wigeon, curlew, guillemot, red shank and green shank. A good end to a great day.
