RAPTORS AND RECOVERY – 5th November
RAPTORS AND RECOVERY
What a week on Tuesday a record breaking tour (see Tour Tales) and on Thursday a different story all together. Three people on the tour had been on the Island all week and hadn’t seen any white tailed eagles and were leaving on Friday so we were there last hope. We picked them up in heavy rain ,they were smiling (a good sign in this weather) on to our first eagle stop…. nothing , on to our second really good eagle spot… nothing but rain and a male hen harrier yes flying in the rain. Our third really, really, really good eagle spotting spot drew another blank, beads of sweat were starting to form on our brows.
After lunch the rain stopped and we pressed on in search of the elusive white tail, at our second stop Hawkeye Mark spotted one in a tree we then found its mate sat close by. We watched them for 30 minutes before moving on, all was well with the world…… then the minibus broke down once again beads of sweat started to appear. I rang Kennedy’s garage Salen and they came to our rescue (thanks lads) in the 25 minutes it took them to arrive we saw another white tailed eagle a close golden eagle and a great sunset.
As we were towed home we spotted fallow and red deer and had a close encounter with a jaywalking sheep. We all parted as friends (still smiling) and they booked again for next year !! …. lets hope for better weather
