Monday 25th March Eagle day

Todays starting point was Tobermory. A lovely sunny morning. We drove to Salen and had a good stop at the bay. Curlew, red and greenshank, bar tailed godwit, teal, widgeon and various gulls.

Our day continued with a very good view of a white tailed eagle right past us. and it obliged by returning. It headed eventually to the nest. Otter on the islands and common seals.

Next stop and another 2 white tailed eagles, one on the nest. A good place for a hot drink while we took in the scenery and the eagles. Heading for the hills we paused to see red deer and a hen harrier over the hill. Stopping in the glen we were delighted with hen harrier again male and female this time together.

It was a very good day for eagles as we watched golden eagles flying in front of us over the hill then one flew into the nest site, the other sat on the hill silhouetted against the sky, perfect.

Lunch stop and distant eagles over the hill, Great Northern divers, red breasted merganser and a very brief stone chat, The delight for me was the skylark singing up high. A sign of spring.

More eagles on the way back. The best eagle of the day had to be the one that flew right over our heads while we had cuppa and cake. wonderful. Goosander in the bay and slavonian grebe more common seals on the way to our last stop.

This was a pretty good stop as we watched two golden eagles flying then one at a time they headed into the nest. we could just see the head of one as it peered over the nest. Then to finish the day two more golden eagles and fallow deer on the way back. Jacqui
