January has come around very quickly and what a wet one it was,
Our wet weather list is being done. Dungalen cottage has been refreshed with a lick of paint and deep cleaned.
We have had visitors, both family and Self Caterers as well as a few tours. This time of year we are quiet for tours so Mike and I tend to do jobs in a morning and head out in the afternoon.
Some snow around making our usual views look pristine and icy.
We have had very interesting weather. changing hourly from hail and snow to blue skies. Lots of lovely rainbows and moody skies.
The wildlife has been really good. Eagles are already putting sticks in nests. Otters have been close to shore as there is little disturbance this time of year.
Its a great chance for us to sit and watch being rewarded with great views of a mum otter with a cub, hen harriers hunting and lots of Red deer around. Lots of Great Northern divers, Red throated and some Black throated divers. Slavonian grebe are up there in my favorites list. Widgeon and teal are here for the winter with Shellduck and passing Whooper swans.
Our garden feeders have been very busy. Lots of siskin, chaffinch, greenfinch and sparrows. Blackbirds and song thrush as well as Phesants, Rock dove, starlings and collered doves. The greater spotted woodpecker visits most days as does the sparrowhawk. A good month for wildlife.
