GOLDEN EAGLE HAVING SOME FUN

GOLDEN EAGLE HAVING SOME FUN
6th December We had a couple of hours at Loch na Keal this afternoon where we watched a playful eagle. It flew down the mountain toward us where it encountered a kestrel, the eagle gave chase folding its wings for added speed. After a short chase the eagle became bored and turned away at this point the very brave kestrel turned and chased the eagle, this didn’t seem to worry the mighty bird as it carried on along the mountainside. Next it appeared to be landing but on a closer look we could see it was hovering about two metres above a sheep which had no idea it was there. The eagle then dipped and touched the sheep on its back causing it to bolt forward a few metres, this happened three times before the eagle opened its wings and soared out of view into the cloud cover. Now was the eagle having fun or trying to drive the sheep off the rocky outcrop it was grazing on I don’t know, we both watched the incident through binoculars and didn’t see it attack with any great force. Sorry no photo’s as it was too far and too gloomy for my trusty camera.    mike. P.S. If any farmers are reading this……. I’m sure the eagle was just playing…….. honest
