1.20pm Golden Eagle

What a lovely September day. With a full bus including two friends, the sun shining we set off to look for wildlife. First two stops gave us common seals, widgeon, black guillemot and shags. Highlights for the morning has to be the two female hen harriers early in the day, staying around long enough to get a great view. A kestrel on a post. Lots of buzzards enjoying the wind and a white tailed eagle on an island. Red deer hinds close by. We stopped for lunch at 1.00pm and looked in the sky for the golden eagles. hard to do when you are eating a sandwich and drinking soup. Our friend Alan said “I ordered it for 1.20pm” he he, we all remarked. Would you believe it at exactly 1.20 the golden eagle flew from the hill top gave a fly by and disappeared. now thats spooky. Our afternoon continued with another hen harrier, little grebe and white tailed eagle. but the unexpected birds were the terns. they looked like common or artic but it was hard to see. At the end of the day I stayed in Tobermory to meet someone. This meant the sun was getting low as I returned home. Gorgeous light and colours. Topped of by an excellent meal in the Mediterranea Restaurant across the road from us in Salen. Quote of the day from Alan, “when I was binoculating I saw a golden eagle” p1100428 p1100430
